Introduction

e2v technologies is recognized as a specialist supplier of RF, microwave and sensing component and sub-systems with a strong, and in a number of cases leading, positions in global, niche markets.

The origins of e2v technologies can be traced back to the 1940s to the development of magnetrons for use in defense radar applications. Since this time they have developed a set of competencies, both technological and commercial, which have seen them demonstrate their ability to innovate and bring high technology products to market.

e2v technology manufactures L3Vision™ Technology

L3Vision™ is an advanced CCD technology that offers performance in excess of the best ICCDs (Intensified Charge Coupled Devices). L3Vision™ finds its main areas of application in photon-starved situations such as night-time surveillance or the detection of fluorescent and luminescent markers in life sciences. However, its ability to operate across the full range of light levels brings a huge increase in system flexibility. In life sciences, fast, high sensitivity operation can be combined with quantitative, slow-scan and time integrated imaging measurements. For surveillance, true 24-hour capability is now possible in one sensor.

L3Vision™ cameras provide optimized solutions for the most demanding imaging applications. e2v technologies has designed and supplied to complex requirements for a variety of space, military and industrial applications throughout the world. The introduction of L3Vision™ enables a new capability that pushes the limits of sensitive imaging. The challenges in providing specialized systems are welcomed at e2v, where experience in custom design and configuration of cameras is long-standing.

L3C95 camera with extreme sensitivity giving 24 hour capability

L3C65AP Peltier cooled CCD sensor camera capable of operation down to starlight of in 100 mlux

The L3C65AP low-light analogue camera is a very high performance, monochrome CCD camera with standard CCIR/RS170 analogue output. The L3C65AP incorporates the CCD65 sensor (with optional antiblooming capability). The sensor is mounted in hermetic metal/ceramic package with integral peltier cooling and gives the ability to image down to overcast starlight conditions (0.1mlux scene) in real time.

The L3C65AP cameras use the new electron multiplying CCD sensor to create an eye friendly image with excellent resolution and detail in all light conditions. The sensor gives brilliant intrascene contrast (improved mid-band MTF) and extended spectral response (400 - 1060 nm). The sensor is extremely robust and provides outstanding life-cycle characteristics even in the most demanding applications. The L3C65AP runs from a 12 V supply and is compatible with all standard video-based frame grabbers and TV monitors via a BNC video output. A set of switches located on the rear plate is used to select gamma (1.0/0.45), back-light compensation, and average/peak gain control. An LCP shutter can be fitted as an option.
